Naomi Stafford Music Theory
Naomi has been successfully teaching the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) musicianship and music theory grades 1 to 6 online for many years. Naomi has an A.Mus.A. in musicianship, violin and flute, an LLM from the University of Sydney and AMEB grade 8 piano. She is a recipient of the AMEB Certificate of Distinction in 2022 and 2020 in the category of Most Outstanding Private Teacher Preliminary to Licentiate, Written subjects. Her students in all grades typically pass with High Distinction or Distinction.
Naomi understands how busy students are and recognises that musicianship and music theory are one more lesson to cram into what is already a very busy week. Not all students wish to pursue careers in music but they do want to obtain their diploma certificates. Naomi’s goal is to see all students enjoy their music and get the highest mark they are capable of achieving in the exam. She is therefore thorough in preparing students for exams and expects students to study and revise on a regular basis.
At the same time, Naomi understands that because of their other commitments and the costs associated with music education, some students are content to sit the exam when they are confident of attaining an exam mark in excess of 65% which is the pass mark.
Feedback
You will be provided with a progress report each term, more frequently if thought necessary, and Naomi’s view on when the student should sit the exam. Progress reports may include comments such as:
I am pleased with the student’s progress and expect her/him to be ready to sit the exam in Term *
The student will finish the course in the next two weeks. The student has been diligent in completing their homework and typically gets it all correct. Once the course is complete, the student should have two more lessons to revise and complete practice papers for my review and feedback and then sit the exam.
The student is struggling with this aspect of the course. Please find additional exercises for them to work on during the holidays.
